SYNOPSIS
IoT is an advanced application of internet connectivity into all physical devices which can be synchronized and controlled remotely. Nowadays these concepts are widely used in each and every field. This has made human life more sophisticated than ever before by connecting all smart devices and resources to our day today life through the Internet. Applications of IoT in Healthcare services is a new concept in the Healthcare sector. Many research and development activities have been conducted in this area. Due to overpopulation, economical crisis, increasing amount of chronic diseases, patients' lack of knowledge in maintaining a balanced and healthy life, inability to get immediate medical access, living below the poverty line, lack of healthcare providers in remote areas, etc. are some major factors that have led to the use of Telemedicine and Remote Patient Monitoring where the IoT concept has been successfully applied. The major advantages of these concepts such as monitoring and consulting a patient from anywhere around the world has allowed healthcare providers to work from the convenience of their home. Indirectly, saving a lot of time and money for patients by reducing wait time at the hospital and paying for commuting to and from the hospital and etc. In the near future this will be the prefered choice by patients and healthcare providers.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir.Shamila graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 2000. She started her career with TriSystems Engineering Sdn Bhd in February 2001, as an Engineer and resigned as Project Engineer in 2004. Ir. Shamila was selected to represent Malaysia at the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS) Forum, a 55-day leadership training program in Japan for young professionals from Asian countries hosted by Honda Motor Corporation, Japan. After she returned from IATSS Forum in 2004, she joined Matsushita Toshiba Picture Display (M) Sdn Bhd as the Safety and Health Engineer, a position which she held from August 2004 – March 2007. She completed and passed her Safety and Health Officer Training with NIOSH in October 2006. Concurrently, she pursued her Master of Business Administration from University of Strathclyde part-time and graduated in 2008. She joined Subang Jaya medical Centre in April 2007, now known as Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare Hospitals as a Quality Executive. She rose through the ranks from an Engineer to Manager of the Biomedical Engineering Department before resigning to form her own company. Now she is self-employed under Armamentarium Consulting as a Freelance Healthcare & Biomedical Engineering Consultant, Trainer and Auditor.
Mr. Gaston Ravin Dias; a Biomedical Engineer from Sri Lanka graduated in 2014 from International College of Business and Technology Sri Lanka. He also has completed Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Malaya,Malaysia in 2019. Currently, he is working in a state hospital in Sri Lanka as a Clinical Engineer and has 5 years of work experience in different sectors like hospitals, companies and research fields.
R.Sumitha is a Biomedical Engineer graduated from Jerusalem college of Engineering,Chennai in 2014. currently working at Gleaneagles Global Hospitals, Chennai. She is responsible in Maintain checklist for laboratory equipments, Documentation, Preventive maintenance and calibration report maintenance, and Equipment service. Ms. R.Surya@kruthiga; a biomedical engineer from Pondicherry, India. completed her study in Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology in 2016 and currently working as biomedical engineer in hospitality industry for about 3 years.
