Anti-corrosion & Paint Specification
All steel structures that are exposed to the atmosphere, under water or submerged in soil, suffer from corrosion. The ISO 12944 standard helps ensure proper corrosion protection and includes important information on paint technology, criteria for paint selection and surface preparation requirements.

Passive Fire Protection
Structural steel loses strength at elevated temperatures. Using passive fire protection limits temperature rise in steel in order to prevent structures losing stability in the event of a fire, providing additional time for emergency response and safe evacuation of the building as well as minimising damage to assets.

This presentation will cover introductory topics on paint specification, ISO 12944 – standard for corrosion
protection and passive fire protection for steel structures. This session aims to provide engineers with a better
understanding on the selection of paint system for asset protection.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

1) En. Effendy Bin Salim

Based in Singapore, Effendy has more than 20 years of experience within the Coatings Industry and is currently the Business Technical Expertise Partner in Hempel. He has accumulated extensive experience both in protective and marine segments of the coating industry and provides technical training for the South & East Asia region. Effendy graduated from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1994. He also serves as a NACE Protective Coatings Specialist.


2) Mr. Zechariah Lim Keng Moh

Zec is the Regional Product Manager for South & East Asia region. He started his career in the paints laboratory as a product development technologist, before moving to a commercial role within the polymer industry, giving him a mix of technical and commercial experience.
He currently spearheads product portfolio strategies for the region, including new products introduction. Zec graduated with a degree in Applied Chemistry from the National University of Singapore in 2008 and an MBA from the University of Manchester in 2019.
