SYNOPSIS
Non-metallic pipe (NMP) is recently getting increased popularity as material for onshore and offshore pipeline, and slowly replace conventional carbon steel (CS) material. Even though the material is generally more expensive than conventional carbon steel, the total life cycle cost (TLCC) reduction is driven by reduction of pipeline installation cost, especially for offshore pipeline and riser application, (faster lay rate, less manpower/equipment) and operational cost (no chemical injection to combat corrosion, less operational pigging and inspection).
There are various non-metallic materials available in the market. Not many materials are suitable or applicable for oil & gas application. The most common types of spoolable NMP currently used are reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP) and thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP).
This sharing session is intended to improve industry awareness, understanding and knowledge on technical capability and limitation of non-metallic pipe, especially spoolable RTP and TCP material, for offshore pipeline and riser application. It will also discuss current available standard and development in the non-metallic standard to increase reliability, integrity and safety for the non-metallic application in oil and gas.
