SYNOPSIS

In the Engineering fraternity, ‘competency’ is a scary word as it has a deep meaning and relates to ability and capacity. As such is it measurable and even worse, how can it be measured? Engineering is all around us in today’s environment, satisfying everything from our basic needs to our more complex futuristic dreams and ambitions. Engineers who make this possible enjoy contributing to teams through technical endeavors to sustain and improve lives whilst performing their task with due care and diligence. Coupled with innovative and creative talent and balanced with professional judgement. Society rightly places great faith in the engineering profession, trusting engineers to regulate themselves on its behalf. This trust can only be delivered through significant individual commitment that is publicly demonstrated by the attainment of the professional competence and practice guided by a certain standard. The speaker shall discuss the dilemma that is faced by young aspiring engineers in attaining professional registration.
