SYNOPSIS

According to a report from the McKinsey Global Institute, it estimates that the Internet of Things has the potential to generate US$4 trillions to US$11.1 trillions in economic value by 2025. So, what is this Internet of Things that could generate this economic value?

Wikipedia defines Internet of Things or, in short, IoT as as ‘the extension of Internet connectivity into physical devices and everyday objects. Embedded with electronics, Internet connectivity, and other forms of hardware (such as sensors), these devices can communicate and interact with others over the Internet, and they can be remotely monitored and controlled.’

In a non technical term, by taking out the jargons, IoT is simply just connecting things to the internet. In this series of digital classes on IoT, we will touch on the basic of IoT architecture layers ie. device layer, gateway layer and platform layer. In each class, participants will learn the basic of each architecture layer with a hands-on session.

We hope that by the end of these digital classes, the participants will gain some insights about IoT and implement them in their next engineering projects.
