SYNOPSIS

In the construction of buildings, offices, residential, industrial, entertainment facilities, sport complex etc. and for the buildings to be functional and habitable, the installation of buildings services i.e. water and electrical power supply, sanitary, lightings, telephone, internet, air conditioning, elevators, firefighting, etc. are essential.

Where Architect provides the aesthetic, fascia, form, shape and layout of a building, and the Structural engineer which provides the frame and structure to support Architect's conceptual design, it is the Building Services engineers that give LIFE, COMFORT and PROTECTION etc. to the buildings, otherwise the building is DEAD.

The former two profession products are STATIC but the later is DYNAMIC i.e. which the end user interact with. Hence, it is very important that all the building services must be properly and duly designed and executed.

Therefore, the M & E site supervision team headed by the Resident Engineer ( R.E ) has a huge  responsibility to ensure that all the M & E installations are properly and correctly carried out as per approved shop drawings. This is to avoid any interruption of respective services when the buildings are handed over to owners.

The talk shall give the overview of the responsibility, challenges and anticipated issues a R.E will face and to share the experiences encountered   during the construction of an office or residential building in various phases during the construction, installation, testing and commissioning.

SPEAKER BIODATA

Ir. Loo Wen Siang graduated in England in 1980 with a degree in BSC (Hons) Mechanical Engineering. He has more than 13 years experience in M & E consultancy in the design, administration & management of projects involving manufacturing plants, residential buildings, offices, hotel, swimming pool and water treatment plants as well as more than 11 years experience as a Resident Engineer RE for the construction of office and condominiums.

He will share his experiences, responsibilities, expectation and challenges as a RE in the aspects of supervision, site and human management, site safety, problems encountered, installation, inspection, testing and commissioning etc. of M&E services for office and residential condominium which would be useful and informative for engineers who desired to work in a construction site.
