Title: POWERING MALAYSIAN ROOF

Synopsis
As solar requires large area of land, and in the context of rainforest countries Malaysia is in the risk of deforestation and contributing to higher earth’s temperature.  The next available large area is the roofs.  This talk will cover the possibilities of convergence the function of roof as weather shielding and as the source of electricity generation.  The convergence also includes the introduction of the concept of Smart Solution Switchgear to harness the cumulation of electricity from various houses’ roofs to energy storage, for optimising the load demand and less dependent to the grid supply.

Name of Speaker 2: Ir. Nor Ziha binti Zainol Abidin

Biography
Nor Ziha is a dynamic team lead and the key driving force for the GSPARX marketing team. Besides holding a BSc and Msc (Electric Power) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA, she is also a graduate with MBA from UNITEN and Melbourne Business School.
Instrumental in setting up and operating the Malaysia Electricity Market (NEDA), Nor Ziha was the key task force member in developing guidelines for large scale solar spearheaded by Suruhanjaya Tenaga. Her vast experience enables her to author papers for prestigious conference like IEEE, CIGRE and CEPSI.

Starting her career with TNB since 2003, Nor Ziha now has 15 years of experience covering electricity market study, transmission planning, substation design, study on integration of renewable into the grid system and retail generation solar PV. She is also a certified Professional Engineer by Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM).

Title: SOLARIZING THE NATION: ROOFTOP SOLAR PV POLICY, MECHANISM AND FINANCIAL VIABILITY

Synopsis
Rooftop Solar PV program has long been implemented in Malaysia for more than 10 years. Beginning with programs such as BIPV in 2005, FiT(2011) and the most recent one  Net Energy Metering (NEM), Solar PV program has regained its popularity with an enhanced NEM mechanism and the introduction of Solar Leasing Program. This talk will cover the history evolution of RE policy and program, particularly Solar PV in Malaysia and the latest Solar PV initiatives, i.e. LSS and NEM. Special highlight on NEM mechanism, available financial schemes and the roles plays by various agencies and entities. The talk will also cover the challenges in implementing NEM and recommend the way forward.

Title: 3S – SOLAR, STABILITY AND STORAGE

Synopsis
Solar photovoltaic (PV) is designed to produce electricity from the sun to supply power for residential, industrial and commercial buildings. They need solar panels to install on your roof, land or car park for example to generate electricity. Solar PV in Malaysia usually sell electricity to the grid instead of generate power individually using solar stand-alone or hybrid system. In order to sell power to the grid, they must first get an approval from Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia and Energy Commission (EC).

Solar PV installation has become more popular and and give a lot of benefits and efficiency. Do you know how solar PV works? What type of solar PV system available? What is the benefit that you will get by installing solar PV system? How do you maintain your solar PV for the next 20 years? Is storage the solution for future energy technology? The speaker will explain the fundamental of solar PV system with its stability and storage technology.
