SYNOPSIS

Occupational Safety and Health practices in the workplace had transformed significantly since the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994 (Act 514) was gazetted on 25th February 1994 by the Malaysian Parliament.  Since then, the philosophy and guiding principles were clearly defined such that responsibilities and duties to ensure safety and health at the workplace lies with those who create the risk and with those who worked with the risk.

The objective of this talk is to share the hands-on experiences of the occupational safety & health practices in a modern power station, the challenges and pitfalls to look out for in order to ensure a safe work environment.  The talk will also discuss an actual industrial accident that had taken place, despite the best effort in Occupational Safety & Health management.

This talk would be beneficial to practicing engineers in industries where personnel & property safety is critical, and especially for OSHA practitioners in industries where they are exposed to similar hazards and risks.
