Nominations for Election to Fill Vacancies for IEM Council Session 2020/2021

To all Corporate Members

1.  The Council of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia at its 419th meeting held on 21 October 2019 had unanimously appointed me to be the Election Officer responsible for the proper conduct of the election to fill Council vacancies for Council Session 2020/2021, (Ref. Article 5.5 of the Constitution).  An Election Programme had also been approved by the Council for implementation.
 
2. The following Council vacancies will arise for the session 2020/2021 as a result of Council Members retiring at the end of Council session 2019/2020:

3. Article V of the Constitution and Section V of the Bylaws give details of the composition, office tenure, nomination and election of the Council. Extracts of the relevant Articles and Sections are reproduced for your easy reference (see Appendix A)

4. A list (Council vacancies) of office bearers who are retiring at the end of session 2018/2019 is attached (see Appendix B). Subject to the provisions in Article 5.2, some are eligible for re-election and some are not.

5. A copy of the IEM Code of Conduct for Committee Members is also attached. (See Appendix C)

6. In accordance with Article 5.13 of the Constitution and Section 5.11 of the Bylaws, nominations to fill the vacancies as stated above in Appendix B are invited from amongst Corporate Members.  Any three Corporate Members may nominate or second any other Corporate Member as a candidate by completing the attached Nomination Form which you could download from the IEM website or collect from the IEM Secretariat. The nomination together with the written consent and the Bio-data (see format attached) of the person so nominated, shall be sent in a sealed envelope marked "Confidential Nomination Paper" and addressed to The Hon. Secretary, The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, Lots 60 & 62, Jalan 52/4, P.O. Box 223, (Jalan Sultan), 46720 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan to reach him not later than 12.00 noon on Thursday, 12 December 2019.
 
7. Voting papers together with the Bio-data of candidates for election are expected to be sent by post on or before 20 February 2020 in accordance with Section 5.11 of the Bylaws.
