SYNOPSIS
Sg. Kerling Mini Hydropower Plant is located at Sungai Kerling, Kuala Kubu Bharu in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is one of the award-winning projects by Renewable Power Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Majulia Sdn Bhd. The award-winning mini hydro project is located in the Gading forest reserve, at the Kg Air Panas Kerling recreational area. The project utilizes the head differential and the river flow of Sungai Kerling to generate clean electrical energy. The hydropower plant delivers 2 MW of power to TNB via the interconnection point at PE Kg. Air Panas under the Renewable Energy Programme. The electricity generated by the mini hydropower plant will displace part of the electricity generated by the grid dominated conventional fossil fuel-fired power plants, hence avoiding further environmental pollution caused by the burning of such fuels. In terms of economic sustainability, by using water, a free, sustainable and indigenous resource to generate renewable energy, Renewable Power Sdn Bhd’s mini hydro project helps curb the nation’s dependency on the ever depleting imported fossil fuels which prices have risen sharply over the years.
