SYNOPSIS
Traditionally the motor starter methods are Direct on Line, Start Delta and Auto Trans. The decision to select the right motor starter method is dependent on the horsepower of the motor. Soft Starter is an alternative to these traditional starting methods especially in the Building Services equipment. The talk will focus the Building Services equipment where there will have such choices meaning traditional method or Soft Starter method. For example, motor starting method using traditional method there is the problem of water hammer in the pipe lines whilst use of Soft Starter will effectively eliminate this omnipresent problem.
Whilst there will be many aspects within the Building Services equipment where soft starter is an alternative, there will be situations where soft starter or inverter can be applied. The presentation will cover the technical and economic aspects and some brief on the compliance to the various International standards like IEC, Ul standard, NBR, CISPR, and CE. The conclusion will touch on the economic viability of Soft Starter against the different starter motor methods.
