SYNOPSIS
The high volume passenger vehicle market segment has been using Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powertrains for decades throughout all corners of the globe. In today’s highly competitive economies of scale industries, will the emergency of electric motor, now replace ICE to become the heartbeat for future passenger car vehicles?
Nowadays one can find widespread electrification within the global automotive industry. Since 1990ies computing hardware, software and rechargeable battery technology has vastly improved. As we march towards year 2020, will Elon Musk lead Tesla Inc. to revolutionize the global automotive industry like Steve Jobs led Apple I-phone to disrupt the global smartphone industry?
What is the suitable future powertrain for passenger vehicles? What are the latest international trends in the automotive industry? These questions will be answered and more. Additionally, several interesting engineering topics will be deliberated below: • Latest Internal Combustion Engine technology • Euro 5 Diesel Fuel • Latest Hybrid/ Electric vehicle technology
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir. Wan Rizaluddin Abdullah is a registered Professional Engineer with BEM since 2009. Graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University, USA. In 1998, he began practicing Powertrain engineering with the prestigious Sauber PETRONAS F1 Team in Switzerland up to 2002. This was where he first began using FEM software to conduct simulations on high performance engines. From then onwards he moved on to work in various PETRONAS Motorsport Projects and also served as a Researcher in the Powertrain Department of PETRONAS Research Sdn Bhd.
Ir. Wan Rizaluddin has been actively contributing to the engineering fraternity both nationally and internationally. With regards to professional bodies he has served as an EXCO member for SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Malaysia from 2008 to 2011. He has been invited to be a Technical Judge at various engineering design competitions which include the 2011 Shell Eco Marathon and Malaysia F1 in Schools Global Finals in 2011. Over the years he has authored several international Technical Papers and presented them in various conferences in Germany, USA and Singapore.
Passionate in automotive & powertrain development, he currently serves in the Institute of Engineers Malaysia as General Committee Member for the Mechanical Engineering Technical Division.
