SYNOPSIS

There has been an increasing focus on driverless cars in the media, automotive industry and the technology industry. This talk will discuss the potential benefits of the introduction of driverless cars for us as individuals, society and the environment. Further, talk will discuss various types of automated vehicles. However it will also discuss the challenges that the industry and the research community face in this journey, especially around ensuring that they will be safe, secure and robust, and some of the ways these challenges are being tackled. The talk will be an interactive session and will be followed by a question and answer session.


SPEAKER BIODATA

Siddartha Khastgir is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), UK. He was awarded the Young Visionary of the Year 2014 by IMechE. Currently, he is the Chair of IMechE’s International Young Member Committee (IYMC) and represents over 20,000 young members on the International Strategy Board. He is also a member of IMechE Council, IMechE’s Equality and Diversity Steering Group and IMechE Southern Asia Region board member.

Siddartha has a B.Tech and M.Tech degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating in 2011, he has worked in Tata Motors, Pune and then FEV GmbH, Aachen, Germany, working on hybrid vehicle control software and transmission control software development and has led diverse teams in the delivery of series oriented projects.

Currently, Siddartha is pursuing a PhD degree at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick, UK. His area of research is testing of driverless vehicles, focusing of safety analysis and identification of test scenarios. He has given various talks at International conferences in USA, S. Korea, Germany, Sweden etc. He is also the UK’s representative on the ISO International Technical Committee TC 204 WG14 (intelligent transportation systems), which is a team of international experts responsible for creating international standards in the area of automated driving.
