SYNOPSIS
Infrastructure is an important element in large scale oil palm plantations. It facilitates the evacuation and mainline transportation of oil palm fruits from infield to the mill. Infrastructure in oil palm plantations consist of housing/buildings, gravel roads, water management, field structures, etc. However, the owner often overlooked the importance of providing good and proper infrastructure, as more attention and resources were allocated for oil palm tree planting and palm oil milling. This presentation shares the general view of the aspect of infrastructure in oil palm plantations in our country and abroad. It also highlights the important of well-planned infrastructure to overcome constraints in evacuation and mainline transportation of oil palm fruits
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir. Yong Hong Liang graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia with Bachelor Engineering (Agricultural) in year 1998 and Master Science (Soil & Water Engineering) in year 2000. He has 17 years of experience in the infrastructure development of oil palm plantation, and rural groundwater extraction and supply in Malaysia and Indonesia. He has served several public listed oil palm plantation companies, namely PPB Oil Palms Berhad, Leong Hup Berhad and TSH Resources Berhad, at various capacities as Agricultural Engineer, Project Manager and Head of Department. Ir. Yong is a Corporate Member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, and a Professional Engineer with practicing certificate with Board of Engineers, Malaysia. He is the Chairman of Agricultural and Food Engineering Technical Division, IEM.
