SYNOPSIS

All the knowledge learned in the lecture class-rooms in colleges, will be of no benefit if it is not put to use. As time passes, the engineering knowledge acquired, would gradually diminish in the minds of young Engineers. This is especially so when the young Engineers are employed in administrative duties and are not performing in their correct environment, doing technical engineering work.

So what can the young Engineers do to maintain their real worth as engineers? Young Engineers can improve on their technical engineering knowledge at fast pace speed, by attending the special talks in IEM. Engineers can be guided to achieve their professional objectives. To ensure their real worth is maintained on the upward trend, young Engineers need to keep in touch with IEM and attend the special talks. There are many machines in the market which the young Engineers can build locally. All that is needed, is self-confidence, and being familiar with the component parts.

Some of the machines which can be built locally, are: Scissor lifts, flood gates, EOT cranes, link bridges, industrial  blowers, crush and shred machines, constant tension reeler, auto lacquering machine, diesel gen set, and welders.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Hsiung Teck Pin is a humble engineer despite his achievements over the years in constructing unique custom-built machines for local use. He passed both the Part I and Part II of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' examinations in 1969 (he did it by private studies). He is a former student of the Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur and the Royal College. (RMC). The college has been a training ground for many VIPs. It was managed and run by expatriates from UK and later by Malaysians after Merdeka. He had the rare opportunity of being one of the few to be selected for the training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst UK which was a centuries old military college, steep in traditions, where many famous British army generals had their early training as officer cadets. Life in the army was exciting and good fun and you get to fire an anti-tank rocket and hit a target 200 metres away. All good things in life must end. After 10 years of service, he left the army to join the private sector to design and build machines. Building machines is interesting work which is also extremely challenging. Each time the work is completed and the machine is successfully built, you have that great feeling of achievement, and you want to build more and more machines.
