SYNOPSIS

The UBBL 1984 Part VIII Fire Alarms, Fire Detection, FIRE EXTINGUISHMENT and Fire Fighting Access clearly list out the requirements of a building, then KLCC is not the normal building but a mega building. In this respect like many mega structures, the many of the clauses in the prescriptive UBBL will not be followed BUT the philosophy of life safety of the building will NOT be compromise.
The technical visit to KLCC fire pump room objective is to understand the design concept and the maintenance of the various wet systems for example the wet active systems like the sprinklers, wet riser, hose reel, etc. Now that the KLCC is more than a decade old, we hope the management would share with our members shortcomings in the design and the maintenance issues faced during the period, more importantly to address these issues during the design stage in the new building.
The number of high rise building in Kuala Lumpur is increasing and the building height is getting higher and higher, this is an opportunity for members to appreciate the KLCC fire pump room design concept and apply it if given the opportunity to be involved in any of these up and coming buildings.
