Synopsis:
This ‘Technical Visit’ will enable participants to get an insight on the latest state of art on an advanced concrete technology which is more commonly known as the ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). In brief, UHPC is an advanced cementitious-based composite material that offers new opportunities for current and future infrastructure development in both urban and rural communities. In its current form, UHPC has been used for bridges and bridge components in several countries which include Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, and United States.
Dura Technology Sdn Bhd (DTSB) has pioneered research in the optimal use of steel fiber reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) in bridge construction through its Sustainable Bridge Construction Initiative in Malaysia. To date, about ninety (90) UHPC bridges have been constructed and an additional 15 are under construction. Of the completed bridges, eighty-six (86) of these are road bridges and only four (4) are pedestrian bridges. This “technical visit” starts with a power-point oral presentation on the background of UHPC and the DURA® bridges built. It then follows with a plant visit which consists of (i) demonstration on mixing of UHPC; (ii) casting and manufacturing of UHPC bridge component, (iii) QA testing program which consists of cube compressive strength test and flexural strength test of UHPC control sample. Full scale UHPC precast bridge components will be also presented.
NOTE: The visit is strictly limited to 30 participants registered on a first-come, first-served basis.
