SYNOPSIS
The Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) is a connection between the Main Bridge of the Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macao Bridge (HZMB) and the proposed Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF). The project involves the design and construction of a dual 3-lane viaduct, connecting the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB) Main Bridge from the HKSAR boundary to Scenic Hill on Airport Island.
The HKLR comprises a 9.4km long viaduct section going from the HKSAR boundary to Scenic Hill on the Airport Island. The design was using segmental box girders and erected in balanced cantilever method. The decks were formed by 3 single box girders or 2 single box girders with stitching together. The single bored pile was used as foundation without pile cap.
This was the first project in Hong Kong using Eurocode EC8 for the seismic design. The design included the new seismic loading requirements in Hong Kong under SLS, ULS and SILS. The talk will focus on the design criteria, analysis as well as design of the viaducts. Some of the construction methods for the project will be addressed too.
