SYNOPSIS The Pantai Catchment is the largest of eight catchments within the city of Kuala Lumpur. The catchment covers an area of over 6,700 ha, which include the central and south-western parts of Kuala Lumpur. Within the Pantai catchment are Bandar Baru Sentul, the proposed Sentul Raya Development, Central Business District, and popular recreational areas such as Bukit Kiara and Botanical Gardens. The previous Sewage Treatment Facilities for Pantai was completed in 1958 using a system designed to serve an ultimate of 527,000 PE. The first phase of the Pantai STP, completed in 1958, was designed to treat an average dry weather flow of 23,653 m3/day and covering 17 ha of the total 35 ha site. The Pantai STP was expanded in 1984 when a 72,730 m3/day Aerated Lagoon (AL) was constructed. Treated effluent is discharged directly to Klang River. The existing Pantai CSTP consists of large Aerated lagoons and recently constructed mechanize plant (which are separated by the NPE) has a total capacity for 877,000 PE, whereas the Pantai CSTP is presently serving a connected PE of 1.18 million. Thus, the Pantai CSTP is highly overloaded and has to be upgraded immediately. The new STP (Pantai 2 STP) is to be constructed at an ultimate capacity of 1.423 million PE.
Note: The visit is strictly limited to 40 participants registered on a first-come, first-served basis.
