SYNOPSIS
Not many school leavers choose TVET as their first choice. And there are even less or no students with good academic records opt for TVET. The reason as to why this is the case is rather universal. On one hand, it gives the impression TVET is for poor students; on the other hand, the career paths are not as clear. It is not easy to change the perception that TVET is for poor student; when we already have Pendidikan Asas Vokasional (PAV) schools for those who cannot enter normal classes after year 6. The Ministry of Education commendably launched its Vocational Education Transformation Plan in 2011 as an effort to provide access to better students. It may be too early to say if the effort can change the face of TVET through this single plan, but the transformation plan has to include all providers, industries and agencies related to TVET and training.
