SYNOPSIS

This 2-day course consist presentations in the following manners:

i.The first part of the course which is an Introduction to Railway Systems is aimed to provide basic understanding and technical insights to practising Engineers on Railway Technology and Operational Concept. The course covers a description of the various components of a railway system, the types of railway systems in operation in the world, safety considerations and the complexity in the management of a railway system. The talk shall also briefly cover the legal requirements with regard to Malaysia Public Land Transport Act 2010 on implementation of railway projects and railway operation.

ii.The second part of the course which is an Introduction to Permanent Way Engineering shall covers the fundamental of permanent way engineering, namely its components and engineering functions of the various components and basic engineering aspects to be considered in the design, construction and maintenance of the permanent way.


Biodata of Speakers

Speaker 1 : Introduction to Railway Systems - Hj. Tajuddin b. Mohd Yusof

Tn Hj Tajuddin, a civil engineer by profession, is currently Head of Design and Construction at Johan Setia Perunding Sdn Bhd, the Independent Checking Consultant (ICC) for the KTMB Klang Valley Upgrading Project (Phase A). He has a MSc degree in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration from the University of Birmingham, UK

He has over 31 years overall working experience in KTMB and has held various positions in KTMB up to senior management level as General Manager of Project Management Division and as General Manager Permanent Way Division before he retired from KTMB in 2011. He has extensive experience in leading the planning and implementation of railway projects and had served as the Superintending Officer Representative (SOR) for Government funded KTMB mega railway projects as well as playing the role of technical advisor to the Government.

After retiring from KTMB, he was associated with Mott MacDonald (M) Sdn Bhd in carrying out asset condition survey of the railway in the Klang Valley. He had also carried out Permanent Way consultancy work for MMC-Gamuda JV to update and prepare the new KTMB Permanent Way Manual (Trackwork Maintenance O & M Manual) to incorporate the latest maintenance requirement for the KTMB high speed metre gauge lines. He also had a brief stint (about 6 months) in carrying out Interface Management duties for Bombardier Transportation in the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Project.

Speaker 2 : Introduction to Permanent Way Engineering - Ir. Hj. Abdul Wahab Ikhsan
Ir Hj Abdul Wahab, a mechanical engineer by profession, is currently Head of Trackworks at Johan Setia Perunding Sdn Bhd, the Independent Checking Consultant (ICC) for the KTMB Klang Valley Upgrading Project (Phase A). He has a MSc degree in Engineering Business Management  from the University of  Warwick, UK

He has over 27 years overall working experience in KTMB. He started his career at Mechanical (Fleet) Department for about 10 years and then seconded for the rest of years to Civil (Permanent Way) Department. He has held various positions in KTMB up to senior management level as  Senior Manager (Technical) of Permanent Way   Division.

At KTMB, he has extensively involved in track works project and its track maintenance. He has also been giving lectures at the KTMB’s training center, Permanent Way Institution gathering and invitation lecturer at UTM university. He has also involved in track related analysis study done by UKM and UiTM universities.

After retiring from KTMB, he worked as track consultant involved in design and incharged of construction works through SCG(I) Consults and KL Consults respectively.
