SYNOPSIS

As the proverb goes `The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence’. Is it a fact or the truth? Well, do come share the speaker’s experience leaving and working aboard, and share your experience.

How well are you prepared to go abroad to work and either leaving your family or bringing them along?
It is definitely a big step/decision for some of us to decide especially when our lives only revolved within our country. Come along and hear some of the pros and cons of leaving and work opportunities abroad.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. (Eddie) Ng Teng Soon has about 30 years of experience in civil and geotechnical design, office and site management gained from working locally and overseas (UK, Australia and Indonesia).

He is a registered Chartered Professional Civil Engineer (CPEng) with the Institution of Engineers Australia and a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate (P.Eng) with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia, NPER Australia and registered ASEAN Engineer.

He is currently working on a freelance basic in Geotechnical Consultancy, Project Management and voluntary NGO works. Furthermore, he is also a Facilitator for the BEM mandatory course on `Code of Ethic’. Projects experience includes works in the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and Indonesia. He has been involved in mining jobs on `Fly in Fly out’ (FIFO) schedule that involves ground investigation projects, road and rail projects and materials resourcing projects. His experience covers site project management, liaison, coordination and supervision with a wide range of civil/geotechnical projects including mining tailings dam construction; roads; buildings; civil earthworks; rectification and rehabilitation of earthworks failure; geotechnical forensic investigation; geo-environmental projects for contamination assessments (waste management and landfill closure) and remediation works; geotechnical engineering design; preparation of tender document and evaluation and site construction management and supervision. Engaged in business development, team leadership, mentoring programme, project management and co-ordination of technical teams required for tailing dam, large earth embankment, road, geotechnical and geo-environmental projects. Familiar with geophysical field works that includes offshore seismic tomographic testing.
