SYNOPSIS
Two words most commonly associated with projects are: unique and temporary. Focusing on the word ‘UNIQUE’, an experienced project manager knows that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to all project problems. When your project is in trouble and likely to become a statistic for project failure, no amount of wishful thinking or bashing your head against the nearest brick wall is going to help you. So the answer or solution lies in using the structured approach of project management, as well as your own intuition combined with a thorough understanding of the unique nature of your project to begin the project recovery process.
The speaker will share his own experience and knowledge in how, amongst other things, the overall project should be evaluated to identify the key problems and the severity of each one, followed by the creation and ‘selling’ of a prioritized recovery plan to the key stakeholders. Once the ‘buy-in’ is obtained, he goes on elucidate how the plan is implemented, project team kept motivated, stakeholders pacified and given the confidence in the plan’s eventual success, and how the plan is regularly measured and reported on. He goes on to emphasize that responses to unplanned events/risks should be decisive, quick, and effective, failing which, further project failure would be imminent.
