SYNOPSIS

The Road Safety Plan of Malaysia (RSPM) for the year 2014 to 2020 was developed to be synchronized with the recommendations of the United Nations Decade of Action (DOA). The DOA was launched to address the global road fatalities. It is predicted that if no additional action was taken, there would be a loss of 1.9 million lives on the road each year by the year 2020. RSMP was developed based on the five pillars of DOA, namely, Road Safety Management, Safer Vehicles, Safer Road Users, Safer Roads and Mobility and Post-Crash Management. For each pillar there are relevant programs to be implemented and relevant intermediate and ultimate outcomes to be achieved. The current status of MRSP will also be presented.
