SYNOPSIS
Three phases Induction motor is the most dominant electric motor in industry. Recently, it has been regarded as one of the electrical equipment in industry that consumes most electric energy. For that reason, there are many changes made on the design and material of the motor to improve efficiency. Besides, variable speed drive has been accepted as one of the requirements in the motor system. Advancement in semiconductor switches technologies has made variable speed drives to evolve so much for past two decades. Although the advancement of both the motor and drives gives a lot of benefits to the consumer, they also equally contribute to new localized issues. In this seminar, some of the common localized problems when motor and drives are installed will be elaborated. In order to understand the root cause of the issues, this seminar will also provide basic background theory of both the motor and drives.
