SYNOPSIS
The River of Life (RoL) is an Entry Point Project (EPP) identified in the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (KL/KV) National Key Economic Area (NKEA) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The RoL aims to transform the Klang River into a vibrant and liveable waterfront with high economic value. This transformation is divided into three components: River Cleaning, River Masterplanning and Beautification and River Development. The River Cleaning will be conducted along 110km to clean and improve the water quality of Klang and Gombak River including their tributaries from the current Class III – Class V water quality (not suitable for body-contact) to Class IIB (suitable for body-contact recreational usage) by year 2020. A total of 12 key initiatives were identified during Greater KL/KV NKEA lab and targeted to be completed within 10 years. The River Masterplanning and Beautification and River Development will spur economic investments into the areas immediately surrounding the river corridor. With the anticipated success of the RoL, the overall Greater KL/KV’s aspiration to be the only metropolis in Asia that simultaneously achieves top-20 economic growth and top-20 most livable cities by 2020, shall be achieved.
