Synopsis

Driving the BIM Agenda in the Construction Landscape - Ir. Sharifah Azlina Raja Kamal, FIEM, P.Eng.,MCIHT
Are we behind in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation?  What do we need to do to catch up?  This talk gives an insight into the initiatives taken to promote sustainable environment for BIM to thrive in our local construction industry.  It also imparts on the experience attained in rendering the BIM services both at the local and international markets.

Corrosion Protection for Pipelines - Madam Michelle Lau
Focus on the types and importance of corrosion protection for pipelines; internal and external corrosion, its mitigation methods and practices of the industry.

Computer Aided Diagnostic  in Medicine - Assoc. Prof Dr Norliza Mohd Noor
Image analysis and image processing has proven to be very beneficial in biomedical imaging.  With the vast tools, techniques and algorithms developed by researchers such as deep learning, machine learning, and neural network, computer aided diagnostics systems developed received lukewarm response from medical practitioner in Malaysia.  The talk will discuss on some of the problems and difficulty face by researchers in Malaysia.

Wastewater Treatment for Environmental Protection - Ir. Jama’iatul Lailah Jalis
To address the importance of wastewater treatment and the associated requirements based on local regulations to ensure its compliance for environmental protection.

Advancements in Electronics Technology– Ir. Mah Siew Kien
Leveraging new technological advancements is no longer optional today in the era of globalization. New product transfers from developed countries to Malaysia have contributed vastly to the rapid development of electronics industry here. The presentation focuses on the changes, challenges and recent advancements in a fast growth industry with rapidly changing technologies and short product life cycles.

“Bridging the Industry-Academia Gap” – Ir. Assoc. Professor Hayati Abdullah
An important aspect of engineering education is the connection between knowledge and ‘real-world’ problems. This is where the role of professional engineers in the academia is essential in preparing students for the ‘real world' of engineering. Thus, professional engineers in the academia play an important role in bridging the industry-academia gap as they can provide distinctive perspective and skills, access to networks, and knowledge which are vital to the success of an industry-academic partnership. In this talk, the speaker will share her experiences as a professional engineer in the academia and how her passion for both worlds resulted in the convergence of engineering practice and academia.

Slope Stabilization – A case study - Ir. Raftah Mahfar
Stabilization of landslides and unstable slopes is a significant challenge to Geotechnical Engineers. Slope Stabilization works is unique as it required an evaluation in term of geology and geotechnical engineering study. The slope stability will decreases with increasing slope angle. Under ground water plays a major role in slope failure as it will increase the driving force by filling previously empty pore spaces and fractures, adding to the total weight of the subsoil. Increased of pore water pressure in slope can also decrease the shear strength of the slope material. Chemical weathering slowly weakens slope material, reducing its shear strength, thus reducing resisting forces.
