SYNOPSIS
The Occupational Safety and Health act 1994 (OSHA 1994) and its provisions were explained at the IEM talk on 13th. February 2016 at Tan Sri prof. Chin Fung Kee Auditorium. OSHA also provides for, under Section 66, for the Minister to make Regulations for or with respect to the safety, health and welfare of persons at work in order to achieve the objects of this Act.
In all nine such Regulations are in force. This talk will be on two important OSHA Regulations, namely the Occupational Safety and Health (Employers’ Safety and Health General Policy Statement) (Exception) Regulations 1995 and the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996, which are important and need to be implemented, unless specifically exempted at all place of work.
The talk will include presentation of a typical Safety and Health Policy statement and in respect to Safety and Health Committee Regulations the topics will cover, the application of the Regulations, Composition of Safety and Health Committee, Functions of Safety and Health Committee, Meetings of Safety and Health Committee and Provisions of Training and Information, all necessary for all engineers and managers.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Mr. Murugiah Suppiah was formerly Power station Manager and Senior Manager Human Resource at Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Resident Competent Electrical Engineer with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Graduated at 6th December 1996 from University of Lincolnshire & Humberside (UK), he has more than 50 years of experience in engineering, management and energy management. He has been an adviser on electrical systems for renewable energy projects and now provides services in Management, Energy Management and Engineering.
He is the President of the Institution of Certified Engineers Malaysia, Vice- Chairman of the Energy Institute Malaysia and Committee Member of the Malaysia Energy Professionals Association.
He has a Master in Human Resource Management, is a Chartered Engineer (FEI - UK), Chartered Energy Engineer and Chartered Energy Manager - Energy Institute UK, Fellow- Institution of engineering and Technology UK, Fellow- Energy Institute (UK), Chartered Fellow – Chartered Management Institute UK. Member City & Guilds Institute –UK.
He is a Registered Energy Manager, Registered Competent Electrical Engineer and Registered Electrical Services Engineer. He has participated directly in major electrical and mechanical projects, energy management and energy efficiency activities, including as lead energy auditor and practitioners’ panel member for Chartered Management Institute, UK. He has authored a book on “Energy Efficiency Management and Audit.”
