SYNOPSIS

The Hydrodynamic laboratory in the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is the centre for research and consultancy activity as well as the lab for teaching and learning of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at UTM. This lab is equipped with facilities for design, model fabrication and test in the area of naval architecture, offshore structure and marine engineering. The main facilities for the lab are Model Making, Towing Tank, Towing Carriage and Wave Generator. The R&D activities are carried out in collaboration with other academia as well as the relevant industry. This is the first and only lab with such facility and focus in the Malaysia at present. The existence of the lab is of great benefit to many maritime related industry to jointly involve in the R&D as well as consultancy works. Many local and international post graduate students have graduated through the use of this lab facility.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Prof. Ir. Dr. Ab Saman Abd Kader is a Professor in Marine Transport System at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), 81300 Skudai, Johor. He possess 3rd  Class Marine Engineers on top of B.Eng, Masters and PhD in various marine related areas. He used to sail on board a ship for a year on internship program and later joining UTM as an academic staff since 1983 until now. He has taught a number of undergraduate courses in the Marine Technology program at UTM including 'Marine Safety and Environment' at the post graduate level.  He has been involved in a number of marine related R&D, consultancy as well as being in various management positions at UTM.
