SYNOPSIS
Are you currently thinking about doing a postgraduate degree? Are you planning to switch your career to academic teaching? Do you like doing research to strengthen your expertise/research area? Currently, there are various postgraduate (PG) degree programs (PhD, EngD, MSc, MRes, MPhil, etc.) available in the market. Some PG degrees can be done by fulltime or part time basis, and can even be done via distance learning. There are so many options available and the question is, how to choose the right one? The aim of this talk is to provide a “beginners guide” to PG degree for chemical engineers/working professionals from the engineering industry. The talk will present what are the options currently available especially for those that do not wish to do it full time. The costs and time frame involved will also be presented. Career choice upon completion of a PG degree will also be presented.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER Dr. Hii completed his BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (1996), his MSc in Food Processing and Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (2004), and his PhD (Chemical Engineering) at The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus (2010). He joined UNMC as academic staff since August 2010 at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. Prior to joining UNMC, he worked as a Senior Research Officer in Cocoa Downstream Research Center, Malaysian Cocoa Board (1997 - 2007). Currently, he is the Academic Champion for the Center of Food and Bio-product Processing and Deputy Head of the Manufacturing and Industrial Processes research division. He is also advisor to UNMC-IEM Student Chapter.
