SYNOPSIS

Nowadays, honesty in business dealings and everyday life does not seem to be at the forefront of people’s minds. Many lament the loss of ethics in working relationship. Most ethical lapses seem small and unimportant. However, they may keep piling up over time and become worse and end up damaging. External parties may lose trust. Be aware of how we conduct ourselves with third parties and consider the consequences. One should also consider the difference between “behaving ethically” and “behaving lawfully”.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Megat Najmuddin Bin Datuk Seri Dr. Hj Megat Khas was one of the first member of the Management Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance (MICG), and was elected as the President of since April 1998. He obtained his Honours Degree in Law from the University of Singapore in 1970.

He ceased practice in 1986 to concentrate on business as well as political activities. He served as the State Assemblyman for the constituency of Kelana Jaya, Selangor for two terms, 1986 to 1995.

He has been the President of the Federation of Public Listed Companies Berhad since 1997. In addition, he was appointed as a member of the National Economic Advisory Council 2 (NEAC 2) by the then Prime Minister, where he was involved in the Human Resource Development Works Committee. In September 1999, he was appointed to the Capital Market Strategic Committee by the then Finance Minister and August 2001, he was appointed a member of the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee (CDRC) of Bank Negara. He was a member of Bursa Malaysia Listing Committee from 1997 till 2007.

He now sits on UMNO (Ruling Party) Malaysia’s Disciplinary Committee and is an Adjunct Professor at Faculty of Law, University Utara Malaysia. He is currently a member of the Advisory (Chairman) Board of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and a committee member of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Financial Directors’ Education Steering Committee (FIDE).  

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Megat Najmuddin serves as a Non-Executive Independent Director of PETRONAS. He is also the Chairman of several public listed companies like; Asian Pac Holdings Berhad, Formis Resources Berhad, Tradewinds Corporation Berhad, SEG International Bhd and Maju Perak Holdings Berhad.
