ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Ir. Adjunct Prof. (UM) M C Hee is a practicing Structural Consulting Engineer and Principal of M C Hee & Associates. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Master of Engineering Science (M.Eng.Sc.) from The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His expertise is in the design and construction of high-rise buildings particularly in value engineering and alternative design.  His philosophy is “design for simplicity and buildability” with a “total concept approach”. He is a strong advocate of back to basics in structures. He has over 40 years’ of experience in this field.  His major overseas projects include the 68-storey MLC tower, 40-storey CML building in Sydney and 42-storey at 530, Collins St in Melbourne. In Malaysia, the number of high rise buildings he has embarked on is numerous, some of which are the 39-storey Core Project and 25-storey Plaza Perangsang in Shah Alam, 43-storey Mount Kiara Condominium, 28-storey Desa Parker Condominium, 25-storey Arab Malaysian Bank in Kuala Lumpur and the 4 high tower blocks of condominium ranging from 20 to 28 story in Sentul. In addition he is well versed in computer modeling of high-rise buildings and his current interest is in strut and tie applications in the field of structural engineering particularly transfer girders and deep beams. He was a Vice President of IEM and an active member of Technical Committee drafting the Malaysian National Annex of EC8. He is Adjunct Professor in Civil Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, University Malaya.


Ir. David Ng Shui Yuen graduated with an engineering degree in Civil Engineering from University of Westminster in 1990 and proceeded to obtain his MSc in Structural Steel Design from Imperial College London.  He started his career with Over Arup & Partners in 1990 and thereafter went on to set up his own engineering practice, DeReka Associates in 1999 specialising in engineering and management.  He is also the owner of SynConsult & Engineering Sdn Bhd, structural steel designers since 2003.

Ir. David Ng was appointed the Chairman of Institution of Structural Engineers, Malaysia Regional Group in March 2013.  A Fellow of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, he is also a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK, a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and a Certificate Chartered Engineer of IStructE, UK.  He participates actively in The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia serving in the Council for sessions 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013.  He had also chaired the IEM Civil and Structural Engineering Technical Division and served as member in the Committee for the last ten years.  With his expertise in structural engineering, he sits in the IEM Technical Committee on Earthquake and chairs the Working Group on EC3 – Part 1-8: Design of Joints.
