THE SYMPOSIUM
The Electrical Engineering Technical Division of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM EETD) is organizing an international symposium on protection against lightning on 27th November 2014.
Who should attend? This symposium is aimed at providing a forum for practicing professionals – Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, Technologists, Researchers, Academicians, Manufacturers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Building Owners/Developers, Government Bodies, Construction/Project Managers, Facility Management Personnel's & Planners.
Exhibition A Technical Exhibition will be organized as an integral part of the symposium. Project experience, design solutions, and application of sustainable solutions for lightning protection focusing on technology and state-of-the-art information will be highlighted.
SPEAKERS PROFILE
Prof Liew Ah Choy is an academician and researcher is currently the Professor Fellow in National University of Singapore (NUS) with over 40 years of experience and 285 journal publications in lightning protection, high voltage and power quality and power systems engineering.
Dato’ Jimmy Lim is an Electrical Engineer and the founder/CEO of Tokai Group of Companies. Tokai is company specializing in the field of lightning protection and security solution in Malaysia. Dato Jimmy is leading the project team for the MRT Project involved in designing and installation of Earthing System.
Mr. Thomas Yeo is an expert in Lightning protection installation and maintenance as well as Lightning protection audit in accordance to MS IEC 62395 lightning protection standard as well as SS 555: 2010 Singapore lightning protection standard. He also undertakes lightning risk management studies in accordance to MS 62305 to determine prevailing risks of lightning protection installations and implement measures to mitigate such risks.
Prof Ir. Dr. Mohd. Zainal Abidin Ab Kadir is currently the Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) and Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia. He is also the Director at the Centre for Electromagnetic and Lightning Protection Research (CELP), Universiti Putra Malaysia.
En. Hartono Zainal Abidin has been actively involved in lightning protection as an engineer in the telecommunication industry since 1980. He has been conducting forensic analysis and studies on lightning damaged low voltage electrical and electronic systems in various industries and also in buildings.
Mr. Maasaki Sato has been involved in providing lightning solution in Japan since 1997. He sits in the TC81 (Lightning Protection) Japan National Committee and participate in the IEC TC81 Plenary meeting, WG, and MT meeting as a Japanese Representative expert.
Ir. Noradlina Abdullah is an Electrical engineer with TNB Research Sdn Bhd. She has more than 10 years working experience in managing and operating Lightning Detection System Network for TNB. Currently she is attached with Lightning & Earthing research group as Technical Expert (Lightning Protection).
Mr Wee Chek Aik has over 17 years of experience in earthing, lightning and surge protection industry. He involves in the R&D of PV surge protection devices under the PEKAT brand based on latest EN50539 guideline and protection topology for PV module and inverter. Ir. Hj. Abdul Rahim B. Ibrahim is a Director of Electrical Safety Regulation Department of Energy Commission, Malaysia. In brief, the main role is to regulate safety in electrical activities in accordance to the provisions set forth by the Acts and Regulations. Actively participate in ASEAN work group on Electrical and Electronics Equipment and currently Chair of National IECEE CB .
Ir. Lim Kim Ten has more than 30 years service in the industry having started in the semiconductor industries (8 years), followed by 3 years in Singapore Polytechnics as lecturer and industrial consultant. He is actively involved in Malaysia Standards (MS) in low voltage electrical engineering.
