SYNOPSIS

The KVMRT is one of the major on-going infrastructure projects in Malaysia. The Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line runs from the north-west town of Sungai Buloh to the south-east town of Kajang with a total length of about 51km, of which  a section of about 9.3 km within the Kuala Lumpur city centre is underground.  When completed, the SBK line will have 7 underground stations and 24 elevated stations. The underground tunnel is being constructed using tunnel boring machines (TBM) while the underground stations are constructed using cut-and-cover method with excavation depths of up to 40m below ground level.

This evening talk will provide IEM members with latest update of the KVMRT project with regards to the progress of the various components of the underground section.  The talk will also highlight some of the key design features and the challenges encountered during the construction of tunnels and underground stations.
