SYNOPSIS
Additive manufacturing is a process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies. An additive manufacturing process in which liquid photopolymer in vast is selectively cured by light polymerization such as stereolithography. In 2009, the 3D printing patents of fuse deposition modelling (FDM) has been expired. The expiration of the patent has thrived the open source printing movement and the initial rise of the home/ personal desktop 3D printer. Besides, the laser sintering additive technology patent also expired in February, 2014. The talk will introduce the additive manufacturing technology such as material jetting, binder jetting, material extrusion, etc. as well as the current trend of additive manufacturing.
