SYNOPSIS

Paper 1 :

Stormwater Management with Storage Infiltration System
   Mr. Philippe Alliaume & Mr. Alfred Wong

Synopsis:

The public demand for local stormwater management is continually growing due to ever more frequent flood catastrophes. Increasing sealing of areas with buildings, car parks and roads is a particular problem for sewer systems in urban areas is increasingly raising the risk of flooding. Due to rapid urbanisation especially in key cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor Bahru and Penang, the consequence of flooding is causing severe ecological and economic damage. The speaker will share his experience and technical know-how on the overall topic of stormwater management and flood mitigation system with the proven technology in countries such as Singapore, Australia, Philippines, China and Japan.

Paper 2 :
Stormwater Treatment and Hydraulic Flow control
   Mr Ezzat Natsheh

Synopsis:

Stormwater runoff will eventually reach a watercourse such as a river, lake or sea, and any pollutants that are present in this surface water are deposited into the environment. Sand, grit and other solids—either carried from impermeable surfaces or as the result of erosion—result in sedimentation and silting of watercourses; nutrients and organic materials disrupt ecosystems and can cause harmful biological events such as algal blooms; and chemicals, metals and other contaminants may cause direct harm to flora and fauna and may bioaccumulate over time.

Stormwater regulators, engineers and contractors are entrusted with an enormous responsibility to approve, specify and install treatment solutions that improve water quality and the environment, both today and for years to come. Fortunately, in the same way that there different kinds of stormwater pollution, there are different techniques, technologies and treatment systems for removing pollutants from surface water.

The speaker will be sharing his experience, case studies, technical know-how on the above topic so when it comes to stormwater management system, it should be studied in a more comprehensive and holistic approach rather than a product-based solution in addressing this issue.

Paper 3 :
Flood Control with Pumping Technology – Success Story at Marina Barrage
   Mr. Raymond Koh, Ms. Oraphan Saeko & En. Ehsan Aswad Abdullah Sani

Synopsis:

Malaysia is moving forward to explore the application of fire engineering as a professional field in our country. The understanding of a fire engineering application framework shall be delivered to the professionals to understand the deliverables, checker requirements, authority submission process, and fire audit inspection systems. The application of fire engineering is a complicated exercise that involves public safety. Hence, the qualified, competent, and experienced professional adopting fire engineering works shall be responsible and accountable for any deviations from the building code requirements to ensure in creating safe fire environment in our home country, Malaysia.
