SYNOPSIS
Estimates indicate that more than $500 billion is lost to corruption each year in the global engineer-ing/construction industry. While this economic loss is staggering, it pales in comparison to the losses suf-fered by people in need of water and wastewater projects, roads, schools, hospitals, and residences to improve their lives. Moreover, corruption kills people when projects are poorly constructed, and it reduces funds for needed infrastructure projects (Henry, 2017).
In the engineering/construction sector, actors range from engineers, constructors, material suppliers, equipment suppliers, regulatory/permitting agencies dealing with procurement and consultants en-gaged in the preparation and implementation of contracts.
Good governance is recognized as the first line of defense against corruption. Therefore, engineer-ing/construction companies have to devise strategies to address and manage corruption risks effec-tively and proactively. The comprehensive framework will enable engineering/construction compa-nies to take up challenge of building their corruption resistance to reinforce their own objectives and enhance stakeholder trust in their organizations.
The speaker will explain issues and impacts corrupt practices related in engineering/construction sec-tor. As prevention of corruption, participants were guided strategies in curbing corrupt practices to-wards achieving certification ISO 37001 (Anti Bribery Management System)
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Dr. Azmi Bin Hj. Mohd is the Research Fellow in School of Management Asia e University and Consultant in IMC Solution (Integrity Management and Consultan-cy). He is a former Senior Assistant Commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Besides of being certified in Corrup-tion Investigation Activities and Certified Training the Trainer, Dr. Azmi possesses a Doctorate in Business Administration from Universiti Utara Malaysia (Northern University of Malaysia - UUM) specialized area in transformational leadership and corporate governance. He is also Member of Board Director in iFree Group Security (Malaysia).
As a subject matter expert during his tenure with MACC in transnational bribery and forensic in-tegrity based- leadership, Dr. Azmi has been invited as guest speaker in these area to several federal government ministries, agencies includes Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA), and government link companies (GLCs). His leadership with MACC in investigation, prosecu-tion, prevention, transnational bribery, and issues on managing integrity made him an expert in corruption crime investigation, transnational investigation and prosecution, corruption risk management/assessment, forensic integrity-based leadership, laws on corruption, organiza-tional business ethics, integrity compliance, and corruption strategic management.
