SYNOPSIS

Improving one's teaching practices and achieving effective teaching and learning process have always been a concern among educators especially in engineering education. This improvement in teaching depends on one important factor – change. The question that is being raised here is: What does it take to change, and how can the engineering educator change himself/herself to meet the goal of teaching effectively?


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Dr. Koh Yit Yan is a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, INTI International University, who is also the member for the Faculty Teaching and Learning Committee. He is a graduate from University of Leeds in the area of Engineering Fluid Mechanics. Despite the main research area in the Mechanical Engineering during his PhD, he also had a chance to complete a module on the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, which stressed on the teaching and learning for the students in tertiary institutions with large diversity, as well as the knowledge of assessment. Working as lecturer in INTI since 2006, he was given opportunities to explore the teaching and learning in higher education in the context of Malaysian culture, as well as presenting his research results in various conferences and seminars.

He has published his work in journals and proceedings locally and internationally. His achievements gained recognition as IMechE The Institution Best Student (UK), 2002, Outstanding Lecturer Award Recipient (Engineering and Science Category), 2008, Outstanding Faculty member (Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology), 2010, 2011, 2012 and Outstanding Lecturer Award Recipient, 2012.
