Background

MIROS, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research is a statutory body under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia. Its main objective is to promote vehicle road safety and reduce accidents on the road, With the support of Global NCAP and FIA, they have set up in 2012 the ASEAN NCAP Centre in Ayer Molek, Malacca for the new car assessment programme for Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. Since then, they have carried out numerous testing, including crash test, to assess the safety aspects of the new car, and given an overall rating to the car concerned (from 2 stars to 5 stars).

In line with their objective, and together with Road Transport Department Malaysia, MIROS has organised a Vehicle Safety Week from 21st to 26th October 2019, to promote vehicle safety knowledge. During this week, they are also holding various seminars / presentations on technologies and products being built into the vehicles in the ASEAN region.

Members of IEM, being engineering professionals, are invited to attend their events. SSIG has taken the role to organise a technical visit (including attend a seminar/presentation) to their Centre on 23rd October 2019. Highlight of this technical visit will be witnessing live a direct frontal crash test on a new BMW 3 series.
