SYNOPSIS
The Bill of Quantities (BQ) is an essential part of a Project and is the agreed statement of the prices which will be paid for work done by the Contractor for the Client. In Ma-laysia, several standard methods of measurement (SMM) are used ranging from CESMM4 (ICE-UK), NRM2 (RICS-UK) and SMM2(RISM). The Construction Industry Devel-opment Board (CIDB) of Malaysia has in August 2018 launched MyCESMM2 which aim to standardize the SMM for civil engineering projects in Malaysia.
The newly launch MyCESMM2 (2018) replaces MyCESMM (2011) and it covers a wide range of civil engineering works. It is expected to contribute towards delivering cost effective civil engineering projects through the adoption of best practices in the preparation of the bill of quantities (BQ). The implementation of MyCESMM2 would eliminate discrepancies and ambiguities in the BQ, facilitate better understanding of the nature of work to be done and thus reduce potential claims and dispute during the construction stage.
Malaysian Standard MS 2701:2018 was also launched in August 2018. It is a standard for MyCESMM2 which primarily contains its principle sections and as an enabling docu-ment for the acceptance of MyCESMM2 for its use in Malaysia.
A Guide to MyCESMM2 provides detailed technical clarifications on work items found in MyCESMM2 while the MyCESMM2 Library of Standard BQ Description readily in MS Excel format provides comprehensive options of list of description of work items to facilities users of MyCESMM2 in the preparation of BQs. Now BQ preparation is made easier using “cut & paste” method.
