SYNOPSIS
Heineken Malaysia Berhad (“HEINEKEN Malaysia”) was incorporated on 24 January 1964. The Company sought listing of its shares on the Malaysia Stock Exchange in 1965. In 1989, the Company merged with Malayan Breweries (Malaya) Sdn Bhd to broaden the product base of the business.
HEINEKEN Malaysia operates the Sungei Way Brewery which began operations in 1965. Located in Selangor, the brewery occupies a land area of 23.72 acres and is the first brewery in Malaysia to receive the MS 1480: 2007 Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification from the Ministry of Health in August 2002. The brewery received the ISO 9002 Certification in 1995 from SIRIM, a national standards development agency in Malaysia, and have upgraded to MS ISO 9001: 2008 in 2010, and subsequently to ISO 9001:2015 in 2018.
Brewing is typically divided into 9 steps: milling, malting, mashing, lautering, boiling, fermenting, conditioning, filtering, and filling. The milling of the grains creates a dusty environment which is potentially explosive, a major fire hazard in the process. Whilst the rest wet processes the heating and cooling cycle to achieve the optimum output relies on the use of control systems. Electricity is a one of the major cost and understanding the controls would keep the cost low. Finished goods warehouse fire is unlikely but the packing material store fire is likely in this respect the appropriate sprinkler protection must be incorporated. Facilities management ensures the appropriate system installed and maintained.
