SYNOPSIS

Protection relay is a device designed to protect the electrical power system by isolating power supply whenever there is a fault detected. It has the ability to sensing the input. These inputs can be current or voltage. A protection relay able compares the input against the set points and provide output signals when the threshold is exceeded.

Protection relay has developed from electromagnetic, induction disc, static, to digital and advance numerical relay. Selection of protection relay and protection scheme coordination is important to ensure a continuous power supply in a building/plant.

In this Technical talk, there will be introduction protection relay, its functionality and selection of protection relay.


SPEAKER’S BIODATA

Mr. Chong Swee Long has been working in industry since year 2003 after graduated from University of Plymouth, UK in BEng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He been working in electrical engineering construction industry for hospital, commercial building, and high rise building as project engineer. He also exposed to Power plant, offshore oil & gas, heavy industries such as steel mill, cement plant, marine ports services, etc while working in ABB.

Mr. Chong is currently Technical Manager in Mun Hean (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in handling technical sales in industrial electrical, power quality, lightning, earthing, and energy management solution to client.
