BACKGROUND
Offices in the original buildings of Damansara Town Centre were occupied by government ministries and departments as well as other private corporations such as Damansara Realty Berhad, Indah Water Konsortium, HELP University College and Johor Corporation (J-Corp). Department of Immigration Malaysia and Ministry of Housing, and Local Governments Malaysia also used to have their offices here and have since moved to Putrajaya, while passport renewal services were relocated to Pudu Sentral several years ago. In 2014 it was announced that the original buildings of Damansara Town Centre will be demolished and redeveloped as office buildings, apartments, and hotel, the sister of the Pavilion Mall in Bukit Bintang in downtown Kuala Lumpur. The two-phase Pavilion Damansara mixed-use development in which sits on a 16 acres piece of land in Pusat Bandar Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, will be targeted for completion in 2021. The mixed development comprises of office blocks, residential towers, hotel with underground basement structure that is located within the vicinity of two existing MRT stations – Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan.
PROJECT BRIEF
The technical visit aims to allow the participants to have an eye-opening and better understanding on the massive underground space development implemented with both the top down and semi town down construction methodology in one of the deepest excavations up to 8-storeys basement on brownfield site in the Klang Valley with the integration of large diameter foundation elements and earth retaining structure. Great challenges to both the design and construction works kick in when dealing with the vast demolition works, while maintaining the more than 30 years old existing counterfort wall, reinforced earth (RE) wall, monsoon drain coupled with removal of over five thousand points of widely spread existing foundation piles in the way of newly proposed foundation system. This development also complies with the regulatory requirements of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation due to close proximity, especially on railway protection in-line with the Railway Act and establishment of comprehensive instrumentation monitoring scheme to railway system along with the basement construction works.
NOTE
• The visit is strictly limited to 30 participants registered on a first-come, first-served basis. • Please observe the ‘NO Photography Allowed’ policy at the construction site. • SAFETY REMINDER: Participants shall be well equipped with their own PPE equipment, i.e. safety helmet, high visibility safety vest and safety boots to be allowed access into the site.
