SYNOPSIS

There is no doubt that autonomous vehicle will produce positive outcome by improving the road safety condition in the future. The potential of autonomous vehicle through its safety technologies implementation, shared public transport and mostly the electrification of the whole system are phenomenon. However, the question is how soon we will be able to achieve this. Despite its amazing potential, we should not forget the quick solution the safety technologies currently available are offering. These technologies such as crash avoidance system i.e. electronic stability control and autonomous emergency braking, which have the capability to overcome errors that may be caused by human. Hence, we should place higher priority in such technologies as they can possibly mitigate the injury sustained by the victims. As one of the path breakers for Autonomous Vehicle, NCAP is one body that promotes the making of safer cars has more to contribute in the development of autonomous vehicle. Although, it will be very crucial to implement Autonomous Vehicle technology in the middle- and lower-income countries where 90% of road fatalities were originated, there should be a greater plan towards delivering its benefits that are align with the region’s safety perspective. Therefore, we should not be rushing to ensure Autonomous Vehicle will materialize immediately but instead ensuring all possible measures have been considered for its implementation. It should not be a be all and end all for vehicle safety.

Speakers Profile
