SYNOPSIS
This Technical Talk will introduce the ‘Seismic Design Of Steel Joints’ based on the approach given in EN1998: Part 1 related to specific rules for steel buildings. Due to a number of missing requirements in the EC8-1 for the design of seismic resisting joints, the current European research project entitled EQUALJOINTS – European pre-QUALified steel JOINTS aims at seismic pre-qualification of several beam-to-column connection typologies common in the European practice will be explained.
The pre-qualification work should provide detailed guidance on appropriate dissipative and non-dissipative beam-to-column joints for steel frame buildings.
SPEAKER BIODATA
Ir. Dr. Nor Hafizah Ramli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Malaya. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Malaya in 2001 and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London in 2005.
Her research interests include analysis and design of steel and composite structures, strengthening of structures, structural fire engineering and fire protection materials. She has produced more than 110 journal and conference papers, and supervised 15 PhDs and 8 Masters (by research) students. Apart from that, she had actively involved in the development of Malaysian Standards related to the design of steel structures and steel products.
