SYNOPSIS

Today business in the engineering sector is picking up in many sectors.  Whilst in Europe recession is setting in evidence declared by many countries including France, Spain and Italy, Malaysia is fortunate to still manage positive growth economically. Engineers are instrumental in almost all business sectors or at least in a great big percentage of the whole market share.  How does the engineer measure up to the challenges of a successful business venture? Are engineers natural risk takers or are they timid, cautious and calculative personalities. The speaker an accomplished marine professional and an accredited professional engineer has seen for the most part of his career in the public sector but entered the private sector business world since 2006. Today he is chairman of 4 companies of related business segments. Dato’ First Admiral Ir Ahmad Murad a retired Naval Engineer will share fundamentals that will assist young engineers who are new in the market and entering into the business domain with a heavy heart and full of anxiety.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

First Admiral Dato’ Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad B Hj Omar  (Retired) is a graduate from University Technology   Malaysia (UTM) in Mechanical Engineering, a MSc from Warwick University UK in Engineering Business Management. After serving the Royal Malaysian Navy for 32 years, he retired as a First Admiral in 2007. Today he is Chairman and Advisor of four companies dealing with six sigma consultancy on process improvement and project management, trading, training, shipbuilding design and ship repair maintenance and Logistics. In the international arena First Admiral Dato’ Ir. Murad is a Council Vice President and Fellow of the Institution of Marine Engineering Science & Technology a professional body and learned society based in London, United Kingdom. He is also a Chartered Marine Engineer (CMarEng) both registered with the UK Engineering Council. He has been recently appointed as an Adjunct Professor of University Malaysia Terengganu Faculty of Maritime Studies & Marine Science.
