SYNOPSIS
Managing reliability and integrity involves the application of qualified standards, by competent people, using appropriate processes and procedures throughout the asset life cycle, from engineering, installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance up to decommissioning/abandonment. The objective is to proactively ensure that the asset performs its functions as intended, or when the asset performance falls below the intended level, effective corrective actions are promptly implemented.
At the core of the reliability and integrity culture is a strong determination amongst the leadership to deliver operational and maintenance excellence. This helps permeate the culture across all functional groups while providing common objectives and promoting teamwork throughout the organization.
A comprehensive, systematic, and integrated integrity management program provides the means to improve the safety of pipeline systems. Such an integrity management program provides the information for an operator to effectively allocate resources for appropriate prevention, detection, and mitigation activities that will result in improved safety and a reduction in the number of incidents.
This topic will cover the challenges faced by pipeline operators in managing onshore and offshore pipeline systems. The discussion will lead to the 14-elements of PETRONAS Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) strategy and significance of each of the element during its implementation. Interesting case studies from own and other’s experiences will also be shared to portray our lesson learnt and knowledge enhancement as part of continuous improvement in managing the pipeline systems integrity both at onshore and offshore.
