SYNOPSIS

This talk will initially give introduction on what is Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB). It will quickly explain the roles of CIDB in ensuring that the construction industry benefits the nation by explaining the Act 520 that governs its establishment.

Then it will to inform the audience about the general characteristics of the construction industry. The unique way of how the local industry operates will also be discussed. It will then outline the importance the industry and its relation to the society at large. By highlighting the previous performance of the construction industry it is hope that this talk will be able to predicts its growth and it will impact the various segments of the industry.
This talk will further dissect the performance of the individual sector. Information about past and future major projects will also be discussed. This will include analysis on the Federal Government developmental budget that will have the direct implication to the implementation of infrastructure projects in the next few years.

The talk will be summarised by sharing the aspiration of the construction industry that will benefits all.


SPEAKER BIODATA

Mr Mohd Zaid holds a Master’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering majoring in Construction Engineering and Project Management from the Oklahoma State University, United States of America (1999) and first Honours degree in Quantity Surveying from Liverpool (1986), United Kingdom. Mr Mohd Zaid Zakaria is currently the General Manager of the Business and International Division of the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), a government agency under the Ministry of Works, Malaysia. The role of this unit is to facilitate and stimulate the domestic business market as well to enhance the export of construction and its related services, overseas. Prior to joining CIDB in 2001, Mr Mohd Zaid served the Public Works Department Malaysia from 1988 during which he was involved mainly in the contracts and project management. He was involved in all sectors of capital works including educational buildings, waterworks as well as roads and bridges. While he was in CIDB, he pioneered the Construction Economics Unit of which evolved to become what the Business and International Division is today. He also served as the first CIDB Selangor state Director from 2011 to 2017.
The latest being the Technical Committee of the International Cost Comparison Program for Asia and Pacific 2017 organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He also presented papers at various conclave including the Asia Construct Forum 2004 (Tokyo), 2005 (Tokyo), 2017 (Seoul) and 2018 (Kuching). He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (FRISM) and Chartered Quantity Surveyor with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM). His international professional affiliation includes a member of the Association of Costs Engineers (ACostE), United Kingdom and a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), United Kingdom. He was also elected by the Honourable Minister of Works to serve as the board member the 18th session of the BQSM which was concluded in February 2019.
