SYNOPSIS

This presentation will introduce the participants to the understanding of Railway Engineering and the importance of Geometric design.

The Talk will cover:

• Introduction to Railway Engineering
• What are Railway Points and Crossings
• Why Railway Geometric Design is Unique
• How the Railway design software has evolved

At the end of the talk, participants will be able to appreciate the importance of the railway geometric design and the difference with roadway design. There will be some design examples to demonstrate the critical interfaces which are to be taken care.


SPEAKER BIODATA

Speaker 1 – Mr. Benedict Indran  - Presently working with Minconsult Sdn. Bhd. as a Technical Director. He has B.Eng (Tech) degree in Civil Engineering (1980-1984)  from University of Wales Institute of Science & Technology, UK. Member of IEM and Professional Engineer( Board of Engineers, Malaysia)  

He  has  total of around 35 years of infrastructure works experience of which 20 years is in implementation of Railway projects. Railway Projects include Main Line Railways and Metro rail Projects, involving Planning, Detail Design, Construction Management and Commissioning.

Speaker 2 -  Mr. Satheesh Babu -  Presently working with Minconsult Sdn. Bhd. as Rail Track Alignment Designer for past three years.  He is a M.Tech Graduate from IIT Kharagpur (2010) India.

He  has total of around 9 years of experience in Railway and Highway sector. He has worked on Rail Track Alignment Design and associated works of Detail design, Conceptual design, Proof checking and  feasibility  studies  for  MRTs,  LRT,  Heavy  haul  (Sidings),  Main  Line,  Depot  layouts, Dedicated  Freight  Corridor,  Depot  expansion  feasibility  design,  Final  Location  Survey. Worked for consultancy and contractor for the Pre-Bid and construction projects of National and International projects.
