SYNOPSIS

Agile approaches to manage projects are getting stronger worldwide, many articles have highlighted that the Agile approaches have greatly increased the success rate in software development, improve quality and time to market over the past ~30 years.  The Agile methodologies have also spread to other industries, such as hardware development, services, marketing, etc.  

This short talk highlights the key characteristics of the Agile Approach that contributes to its success.   It includes the reasons for the Agile approaches, history, Scrum basics and discussions on how the Agile approaches can benefit your projects and organizations!


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

William TAN
PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, PSM, SAFe® Program Consultant
Certified Trainer, Coach, and Consultant

William Tan is the author of the popular Project Management book, titled “Project Management: A Practical Step-By-Step Guide”.  He has more than 22 years of working and project management experience in Multi-National Companies, including with Nortel, Intel, and Motorola.   In Motorola, he led Project Manager Office (PMO) and managed many hardware and software RND and NPI projects for 2-way walkie-talkie customers worldwide, contributing to additional revenue of >$100M annually.  He led the project teams to develop the walkie-talkie and accessory products from customer requirements, product specifications, to design and prototypes, testing and product launches successfully.  

In early Universal Serial Bus (USB) days in Intel, he was involved in implementing many USB projects successfully.   He and his team developed the customer specifications for the world first USB microcontroller!   He published one of the first USB books, “Developing USB PC Peripherals” that outlined key steps in developing USB devices.  This helped to accelerate USB adoption during those days.

He graduated from University of Canterbury, New Zealand and National University of Singapore, with a First Class Honours degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) and Master of Engineering (Telecommunications) in 1991 and 1994, respectively.

Today, William Tan continues his passion and focuses on providing Agile, Scrum, and Project Management training, coaching and consulting services, to companies and individuals in Malaysia and South East Asia, and assist candidates to attain their Professional Credentials!
